Topics of the mini-symposia include orthogonal polynomials, approximation theory and, possibly other subjects, where one of the main research tools is the method of Riemann-Hilbert problem (RHP). Many problems in these area can be expressed in terms of the corresponding RHPs. The nonlinear steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou has proven to be very effective in calculating large/small parameter asymptotics of RHPs, leading to an array of new interesting asymptotic results.
